Day 3 - Milford to Great Barrington

I woke up at the back of 4 again this morning cos my body hates me. It did mean that, after a quick hotel breakfast, we were out nice and early. We drove through the backroads of Connecticut and it looked exactly how you would imagine the backroads of Connecticut to look. There were lots of giant wooden houses, lots of trees and plenty of natural beauty. Unfortunately, it is a wee bit too early down here for proper fall foliage but the leaves are starting to change a bit. Our first stop was in the charming Washington Depot, we stopped in at Marty's Cafe for a coffee (which was delightful) but it got interesting when we popped into The Hickory Stick bookshop next door. The woman working there was English but was delighted to tell us she was actually born in Paisley, small world. The interesting part was when she asked us if we'd seen The Gilmore Girls (obviously) and then told us the town had been part of the inspiration for Stars Hollow in the series. She then told us it had ...

Day 2 - Boston to Milford

As noted in yesterday's blog, I woke up at 4am this morning. K wasn't too far behind at 5. As a result we ended up leaving the hotel at 7am to start the day. Our plan for breakfast was 50mins away a state over in Rhode Island so it didnt seem to ridiculous. We assumed cos of the hour, and it being Sunday, the roads would be quiet - we were wrong. The road through Boston and down to Rhode Island was pretty rammed but K handled it like a champion. Soon we were leaving Massachusetts behind and arriving in Rhode Island and our first stop of the day - the Modern Diner just outside of Providence. It was also quite busy even though it was 8am but we got a wee booth. K ordered the classic eggs, bacon, homefries and toast and i got cheese grits topped with jalapeno bacon (it came over 2 plates with eggs, home fries and toast!). The food was delicious,  the atmosphere was great and the building was beautiful- 10/10 would visit again. After breakfast we drove down into Providence prope...

An unexpexted note from K about Day 1

Ive just woken up at 4am (what is the opposite of jetlag? Jetlead ?) To find the following on my phone from K (who is currently sleeping thankfully): Today's blog entry is brought to you by Kirsty, as Toerzy is sleeping! Travel day. Today was long, as we left the house shortly after 11am and arrived at our hotel around 4am uk time. Our flight from Glasgow to Heathrow was uneventful, apart from the fact that we flew over central London before landing! We saw all our favourite landmarks - Tower Bridge, The Barbican, the Gherkin, Trellick Tower and Regent's Park. At Heathrow we had some lunch at Giraffe before getting our next flight. For this flight we had specifically booked our seats to get a row with only 2 seats, so we wouldn't have someone next to us and so we would have more legroom. Annoyingly they had changed the type of plane so our seats were in a row of 3! Fortunately the 3rd seat was free so we got to spread out anyway. Our meal on the plane was quite nice - ch...
