An unexpexted note from K about Day 1
Ive just woken up at 4am (what is the opposite of jetlag? Jetlead?) To find the following on my phone from K (who is currently sleeping thankfully):
Today's blog entry is brought to you by Kirsty, as Toerzy is sleeping! Travel day.
Today was long, as we left the house shortly after 11am and arrived at our hotel around 4am uk time. Our flight from Glasgow to Heathrow was uneventful, apart from the fact that we flew over central London before landing! We saw all our favourite landmarks - Tower Bridge, The Barbican, the Gherkin, Trellick Tower and Regent's Park. At Heathrow we had some lunch at Giraffe before getting our next flight.
For this flight we had specifically booked our seats to get a row with only 2 seats, so we wouldn't have someone next to us and so we would have more legroom. Annoyingly they had changed the type of plane so our seats were in a row of 3! Fortunately the 3rd seat was free so we got to spread out anyway. Our meal on the plane was quite nice - chicken tikka masala, and I had a wee chicken caesar wrap before landing. At one point they came round with a basket of ice cream Magnums which was delightful!
We watched some films and tv as usual - lots of options. There was a Spanish woman sitting behind and over from us who seemed to have zero flight etiquette! When we were taxiing (sp?) to the runway she was doing a whatsapp video call, and she kept putting her bag up on the seat after the air hostess told her not to.
Anyhoo, when they were bringing the magnums round she got pretty excited and was reaching her arm out and waving to the air hostess from a few rows away to get hers! We landed around 9pm US time, and got through customs surprisingly quickly. Our suitcases arrived safely too which is always good! Then it was a quick bus ride to the car rental area.
We got a free upgrade for a lovely red ford hybrid with inbuilt satnav etc, but annoyingly a warning message came up saying it needed an oil change. Not wanting any problems when we are driving about the mountains, we went back to the desk and they swapped it out for a white toyota camry.
Victoria successfully navigated us to the hotel and we are here now. V is sleeping and I am hoping to be very soon as it is 11.40 US time, i.e. 4.40am UK time!
Sounds like such a good flight. Food tastes different when you are at that altitude. I always imagine usa customs to be a nightmare, so glad it was speedy. Mmmm magnums
