Day 14 - Boston

Im writing this sitting in Boston Airport while K eats her dinner.

Our flight isnt til 2250 so we've still had a full day. We slept in a bit cos i've developed a stinker of a cold which means that breathing isnt the easiest and also it has been a horrendous day weather wise.

We rolled out at about 1030 and said by to our air bnb, it has been a good one. Our first stop was ihop which was a delight. I got a waffle with banana and K got a stack of pancakes. It was amazing my first waffle of the holiday so I'm glad it was a good one.

We decided just to go to the cinema cos the weather was really horrible but first we popped into CVS to get some cold and flu tablets for me. The cinema was a luxury one with recliners which was great. It also had a fun skittles pic n mix, we got a mix grape, apple and orange! The cinema had a wee food court with a Nathan's Hotdogs, a pretzel place and a pizza place as well as the normal concessions. We went to see Jexi which wasnt the best film ive ever seen but it was a pleasant enough way to spend a couple of hours.

Post cinema we went back to Beachmont (where our air bnb was) to park the car at the tube station so we could hop into town. The area is quite near the airport so we knew it would be easy to get there later on. We certainly didnt want to drive into town.

In town we were ready for a late lunch so we decided to go to the pop-up poutine place run by Air Canada that we spotted yesterday. There were about 8 flavours of poutine but we both decided to go for the classic Montreal. The place was crazy busy - there is clearly an appetite for poutine in Boston. It wasnt massive portions but it was only $5 so it was def enough for the price. The 2 girls sitting opposite us got 5 of the different flavours to share - heroes!

After our poutine we decided to go to the aquarium cos we didnt fancy schlepping about. We go the combo ticket with the IMAX next door. The aquarium wasnt massive but it was pretty good and we didnt have a massive amount of time anyway. K was delighted to find a garden eels exhibition, they are her favourite!

The IMAX show was "Australia's Great Wild North, it was only 40mins but it was pretty good.

After that we just got the tube back to the car, filled the tank and drove to the airport. We spent just under $100 on petrol over the 14 days so we were pretty pleased with that.

Car back we headed through security which went smoothly enough. There isnt much to do here in Terminal E so we just had dinner at Sbarro - we're so fancy. I had baked zitti with lemon chicken and K had spaghetti with roast veg. It was actually surprisingly decent. Our flight isnt for another 2.5 hours so we've still got loads of time to kill. I cant wait to get home to my bed!

    Aw it's so sad it's come to an end, and you have a cold. Dark times befall us. Sounds like you had a good last day though. I've been to the Australian North yey (eh, actually, that's the only bit I've not been to awww). Dark times

Day 3 - Milford to Great Barrington

I woke up at the back of 4 again this morning cos my body hates me. It did mean that, after a quick hotel breakfast, we were out nice and early. We drove through the backroads of Connecticut and it looked exactly how you would imagine the backroads of Connecticut to look. Day 7 - Stowe to North Conway

We woke up to a very chilly Stowe, the temperature has def dropped dramatically since the early sunny days. It was dry at least! We had breakfast in the hotel, pancakes and bacon with lashings of Vermont Maple syrup, then hit the road. We were sad to leave the Stowehof behind because it was an absolute dream. We were also leaving Vermont behind as our first stop for the day was Littleton, New Hampshire. Littleton was high on K's list as it is home to Chutters which has the worlds longest candy counter. K was the proverbial kid in a sweet shop and danced around with her pic n mix bag, absolutely delighted. We went a wee walk around town and it was all very cute, there was even a covered bridge in the centre of town. There was even some nice street art but one seemed a bit sarky, it said: "welcome" to Littleton! Pushing on from Littleton we headed for Flume Gorge. Day 4 - Great Barrington to Brattleboro

The morning started at 430am (urgh) and i discovered torrential rain pouring down. Dang. Our first planned stop for today was a drive to the peak of Mount Greylock so heavy rain was the last thing we needed. We didn't set off quite as early and the rain calmed down so we were hopeful that the drive was still a-go. Before setting off we had to get some petrol for the first time - always a joy working out how it all works. We got some gas station coffees and we were off. The colours seemed to have popped more over night so even with the rain it all still looked beautiful. As we approached the mountain the rain got heavy again and we realised we could hardly see the top half. We decided to push on and see how we went but when we got to the welcome centre we were already in cloud so we decided that it wasnt worth the trouble.
